Immigration psychological Evaluators: Virginia
Julia Barnes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida, Virginia and Delaware. Daughter of an immigrant (from Brasil)
I have over a decade of experience and practice in a healing is an infinite approach. I specialize in trauma and complex cases. I received my bachelor's and master's degree in social work from Florida State University. My career began working in Department of Veterans and Affairs, progressed to integrated healthcare settings in various states. My Immigration Evaluation career began with a H.O.M.E (Humanitarian Outreach for Migrant Emotional Health) a non-profit outreach program which included emergency mental health evaluations (usually completed within 48 hours) and expert assessments for immigration court including asylum seekers.
My name is Abby Mento (she/her) and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Virginia. I offer psychological evaluations for asylum, T-visa, U-visa, VAWA and hardship waiver cases. I am fluent in Spanish and I have 10 years of experience supporting the immigrant community as a social worker and therapist. I have worked clinically with survivors of human trafficking, torture, domestic violence, sexual assault and gender and sexuality-based violence. I also specialize in perinatal mental health (PMH-C). My current work as an EMDR trauma therapist informs the care and professionalism with which I approach evaluations. I strive to create a space in which clients can feel secure and grounded, even as they recall and share painful parts of their life story. I am able to provide a quick turnaround time for writing most evaluations after the sessions are completed.
I am a bilingual (Chinese-Mandarin) bicultural licensed clinical marriage and family therapist licensed in Maryland, District of Columba, and Virginia. I obtained my Ph.D. in Family Science and M.S. in Couple and Family Therapy from University of Maryland at College Park. Since 2022, I have successfully completed evaluations for extreme hardship cases and U-visa cases.
I completed advanced training on psychological evaluations for Petitions for Extreme Hardship Waivers (I-601 or I-601A Waiver), Asylum Cases, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) cases, and U-visa cases and court preparation training from Georgia King.
I usually meet with clients twice, online or in-person, each time lasting 1 to 1.5 hours. Based on the assessments, I provide a very thorough, between 15-25 pages report depending on the type of evaluation.
